Blog #11-The Ideal Family

Filed under: Uncategorized — connief02 at 9:08 pm on Tuesday, May 26, 2009

In many peoples’s minds the ideal family is the perfect family. They are the ones that are happy all the time and agree on everything with eachother. Well i hate to break their bubble but that ideal family does not exist. No matter how hard we try there is always going to be something wrong. We can not fix everything and we do not always agree on what other people are saying. The human race is a selfish race and we do not always listen or care what others are saying. No matter how hard we try, our life is never going to be perfect. There will always be a hardship in one part of your life or another. I have another opinion on the ideal family.

I like to picture the ideal family as the family that many people have but do not appreciate it for what it is. The ideal family is where whether it is just the husband and wife or even if they have children that they always communicate. They do not yell at, or fight, but they rationally talk things out because they do not want to make a big deal out of something. They are the type of family that would do anything for anybody, especially those in their family. It is the family that supports eachother and loves eachother so much that they could not even think of being angry at the other for long. The ideal family is not perfect, for what is perfect really? They are kind, considerate, and loving, but they will have their times of frustration. They may mess up but they will always be loved and accepted. They will have the days where they just want to curl up in a ball, but with the help of the family they will be able to go through the day. In my mind the ideal family are the ones that pull through even when things seem impossible. They are the survivors of the world we live in today.

Hero choices

Filed under: Uncategorized — connief02 at 10:20 am on Tuesday, May 5, 2009

For me i don’t view people as heroes. There are really amazing people out there in the world, but everyone makes mistakes. People have the picture in mind that a hero is someone who makes it in the nick of time before something bad happens. No matter who you pick as your hero they are only human and not perfect and i can guarantee you that there is something about them that you may not agree with, or they will let you down on something.  The only person i could view as a hero would be my savior, Jesus Christ. He is there with me wherever i go, and he will always help me through the hard and good times in my life. He will never leave me and i can always trust that he will be there. He is not the kind of hero that you can see, or touch, but i can always feel his presence. He is not only a savior and Hero, he is my best friend. I also have people in my life that i look up to because of their ability of bravery and kindness. One of those people is my mom. She is an amazing person who would do pretty much anything to help make my families life good, fun, and just plain interesting. She is a very giving person and puts the  needs of others above her own. She may not be my hero but she is the next best thing.

The animal that i would rather see in the wild then a zoo is a giraffe. They are such graceful creatures and i don’t see why anyone would want to put them in a cage that they can not run free in. Sure the cage is big enough, but is it really enough space for the giraffes to feel free? Giraffes belong in the wild where they started! I didn’t hear any complaining from them that said that they wanted to be put in a pen! Did you? In all the jungle-ish movies i have seen the giraffes are free and enjoying life in the jungle! I have never seen a movie when they are in a zoo! Besides in the zoo you can not touch them. You can only see them from afar. Is that not the same as seeing them on a movie? I am just trying to tell you the giraffes possible point of view. I am done now! I hope you received something from this!

Shades of Blue

The color blue can stand for many things. In this moonlight shading of blue it is peaceful, calm, and mysterious all at once. The light plays rays of blue over the rippling water continuing the mystery. How does the light reflect so deeply, and yet so lightly at the same time? At the moment where blue hits darkness, you wonder if the darkness will ever end. So bleak and dark, it is as mysterious as the water itself. It’s never ending, never leaving, only disappearing for a time when the light slowly absorbs the darkness. Only to return again with the same mystery as when it left.

Blogging has made a big impact on my life. For me using a blog is somewhat foreign, because i am not on the internet like many of my peers. I have an email, but i am sort of technologically challenged. It took me forever to learn how to get from my page to the class page. That was just the start. i had to ask help from people constantly and it was kind of frustrating that i couldn’t figure it out. The good news is is that i did learn how to manage my blog after some practice. It did take a little while, but i have accomplished the impossible for me. Through this whole experience i have realized that even if i don’t think i can do something there is always the possibility that i can. it just takes a little practice. Now i am much more comfortable while using my blog. i do still need help from time to time, but it’s not as frequent anymore.

What teachers can do to help people like me is to help them when they need help. We feel like we are going to fail unless someone takes the time to show us how to get from one place t the next on the blogging site. It can become really confusing and frustrating to the point that we want to give up and accept defeat. I am very fortunate to have a teacher and classmates who helped me through the process. This is definetly an experience that i will remember for the rest of my life.

#10- Earth Hour

Filed under: Uncategorized — connief02 at 6:55 am on Monday, April 13, 2009

I grew up in a house where we weren’t all crazy about Earth Day. We do use the three R’s which are: reduce, reuse, and recycle. Where reduce means to lessen what you use especially when you don’t need it. Reuse is where you buy things at the store and get shopping bags and then use them for things that you need at home, like holding bottles or food so it doesn’t spill, or anything. Recycle is an easy one. You can recycle paper, bottles, glass, etc. So there are many ways you can help our environment. We also know that Earth is our home and we should take care of it. We just don’t think that everyone buying an electric car will help too much, because with the way the economy is going people just dont have the kind of money to buy those. We aren’t the type of family who thinks that by not using your lights for an hour will help the economy.

We had been fishing for hours. Six if you were counting.I was sitting on a raft made out of wood with my brother Aaron. We had been catching a lot of fish and my dad just didn’t want to stop. So we continued to fish. After awhile, we started getting tired, and no one was catching any fish.My dad told us to pack it up. We started reeling in our poles, and when mine came up i had a fish on the bottom. I yelled,”Daddy, I got a fish!” He started coming over and when he saw my fish he said,”I am sorry, but we can’t keep it.”I asked him why not and he said,”Because it is a Bullhead.” (If you do not know what a Bullhead is, it is a type of fish that you can’t keep, and probably wouldn’t want to keep, because they’re so ugly, they don’t have practically any meat on them, and the law says you can’t.)

Blog #5-Text Messaging… Does it help or hinder student writing?

Filed under: Uncategorized — connief02 at 9:25 pm on Wednesday, October 15, 2008

I honestly think that texting is great for people who do not have unlimited texting, so their parents do not go crazy when they see the bill. At the same time though, text messaging is for exactly what it says..texting. As in cell phones and email. People should not be putting that mumbo jumbo into their essays. That is just weird and dumb. I did not even know half of the words that were on the girls essay. That could be from the fact that I do not have a cell phone, but i do have email, and I abreviate quite a few of my words, but that still does not make me a bad speller in essays. You do not see me writing “idk” in any of my writings, do you? (With the exception of this one.) I admit that writing abreviated words works great for email, because it makes it so I do not have to write out super long sentences, but that does not mean that we should start getting lazy and making our teachers go crazy wondering what we wrote. They already put up with our misspelling, they do not need any more junk to drive them to the pit of insanity. I almost go insane when I hear someone speaking with abreviated words. I hear them at school, in the mall, on the bus, and many more places that are totally random. It just sounds so weird, that it almost seems foreign. Almost to where people have a new language that only the ones who text a lot know. One time someone came up to me and started speaking with abreviations, and I did not understand a word they said, so i waited until they were done and then said,”Could you repeat that again, but this time in English?” I know that sounds rude, but how would you like it if sopmeone came up to you and started speaking in a language you did not know and excpected you to reply? That is how i felt.I am not saying texting is bad, but if you are going to text…keep it in your phones.

Blog Post #6- Podcasting: Hatchet by: Gary Paulsen

A link to this Podcast http://odeo.com/episodes/18115773-Hatchet-by-Gary-Paulsen

The people who created this podcast, made it seem like the real thing so much that Ifelt that Iwas with Brian, and stuffing berries into my mouth until Ihad a headache. I could see the birds as they flew away from the bushes. It’s amazing how much sense you can get from just a little bit of sound. I really liked how the people had the guitar going throughout the whole podcast. It made the podcast not feel so sad, but it almost made it seem more adventurous. The music also made the podcast so much better then it would have been without it. It made me realize how much just a little bit of something like music or words can totally change what you’re picturing. When the people described Brian gasping for breath, and you could hear the water, I could picture Brian surfacing for the first time in awhile. When I listened to this podcast it made me want to read the story. It sounded so exciting that I wanted to go check out the book right then and there. This Podcast gives you a mental look of the book so that while you read it, you will be able to put the voices from this Podcast into the voices of the characters as you read. I can’t wait to read the book!
